The word Zimbabwe means house of stone based on the Great Zimbabwean ruins. The Shona have been stone carvers for centuries and are some the best stone carvers on the African continent.

Giraffes are unique to Africa said to symbolize intuition. The giraffe is often used as a totem for people who are dynamic, farsighted and prone to visions. The giraffe is also considered a messenger that encourages us to broaden our horizons.

The stone used for the carving is fetched from quarries which are sometimes up to 100 miles away from the village where the artist works. Each stone is different and contains a variety of colors, striations and naturally occurring lines.

The sculptures are fragile.
